Karema Deodato Millinery is a Berkshires-based hat and accessories label creating elevated pieces that balance luxury with ease, practicality with artistry, and timelessness with modern wearability. Produced locally in small batches throughout the Northeast, each design is hand blocked, hand cut, or hand knit using traditional millinery, patternmaking and knitting techniques rarely preserved today. Thoughtfully crafted from carefully sourced textiles and trims, every hat is designed to be lived in, styled effortlessly, and cherished for years to come.

Raised in a household shaped by creativity and craftsmanship, Karema learned early to value the beauty of making by hand. Her mother, a clothing designer known for hand-stitched leatherwork, and her father, a jazz pianist, fostered an environment filled with texture, rhythm, and artistic expression. Karema created her first hat—a black velvet fez—from her mother’s fabric remnants while still in high school, beginning a lifelong fascination with construction, form, and detail. She taught herself sewing and patternmaking by carefully deconstructing antique and vintage garments, studying their exquisite stitchwork, materials, and finishing techniques.

After studying fashion at Parsons School of Design and Fashion Institute of Technology, Karema joined the millinery department at the Metropolitan Opera House under renowned milliner Janet Linville. There she refined her mastery of hand stitching, blocking, and trim work while helping create historically accurate hats and headpieces for the stage.

She later launched her namesake collection, earning placement at Barneys New York, Takashimaya, and select specialty boutiques across the country. Today, the collection continues to reflect that same devotion to craftsmanship: understated yet distinctive pieces made with intention, soul, and enduring style.
